Is Michael Vartan really speaking Italian?

Hi, I haven't actually seen this whole movie, just a few clips online. In one of them, Michael Vartan is playing the descendant of a French character he played earlier in the film. The clip frame was very small, so I couldn't see clearly, but it almost seemed as if the Italian audio didn't sync up with his lips. Does anyone know if he was really speaking Italian, or if it was dubbed?

It seems to be quite common in multi-national European films that a lot of the actors are dubbed, and the sync isn't always too good. I don't *know* the answer to your question, but I certainly got the impression that the bit where Massimo is defending his dissertation wasn't Vartan speaking. As for the rest, well, I'll have to go and watch it again - oh, and haul out whichever of my "Alias" DVDs he speaks Italian on - and do a bit more research, won't I?
