During the film Max keeps telling his wife that she couldn't be a part of his experience after the crash. But at the end, he tells her to save him. I truly believe he ate the strawberries on purpose so she could save his life and that's what brings them together in the end...Any thoughts?

Well she's still not part of his experience but he does do it in order to be brought back to life and (re)connect with his wife (he recognized that his ability to save others couldn't apply to himself, he needed an "outside source" or person as it were).
