Why did Max get so angry when his son and that other little boy left the table?

Max wasn't himself, and his son had probably been allowed/gotten away with this behaviour before the airplane crash....

I don't remember them even asking permission to leave the table ; they just zoomed to his bedroom half way through dinner.
Also Thanksgiving is a very important occasion for family and friends to be together.
To leave the table so casually is unthinkable. He had every right to be angry.
