Oscar Nomination.

Does anyone feel if anyone should've gotten a nod, it should've been Bridges? This is easily the best performance of his I've seen, he's normally not that enjoyable for me but he really managed to let go of 'Jeff Bridges' and really completely drowned himself in the character of Max Klein. I mean, his 'enlightened' look is just about the most earie thing I've ever seen on cellulloid.

Opinions?

I agree that he should have been nominated but it was such a tough year - David Thewlis, Robin Williams and Al Pacino couldn't get in too.

I'm just glad that Rosie Perez's indelibly haunting performance was recognised with at least a nomination. The film generally should have had much more award recognition.

considering Bridges entire body of work, i cant think of any other contemporary actor who's as underrated. i assume you've never seen "American Heart".

I feel like Bridges should have been nominated. I also give a supporting actress nod to Isabella Rosselini. I also give a Director nod to Peter Weir. I love the movie.

Bridges performance was more complex, understated, and just plain better than anything that Tom Hanks did in Philadelphia. Bridges should have received an Oscar nomination AND won.

Not to mention the film deserved a best director nod for Peter Weir for the opening scenes alone.

Bridges certainly deserved a nomination, as did the superb cinematography. I wouldn't nominate Perez (although she was by far the best of that year's dreadful, perhaps all-time low supporting actress line-up) but would give my supporting nomination to the superior Isabella Rossellini.

He should have been nominated.

This film should have gotten at least one Oscar. Best actor, actress, supporting or director, whatever. It should have got one.

Bridges should have got an Oscar already (actually I don't think he really cares), but if he had got one with Fearless, it would have been awesome.

I couldn't agree more.

Immensely superior to Pacino's exaggerated, shouty performance in Scent of a Woman, but not as memorably venomous and mysoginistic as David Thewlis in Naked. Although Bridges falls somewhere in between, here, it's definitely his finest hour.
And that's really saying something.

The oscars are crap anyway, make a film about AIDS or nazis and you'll get nominated, and if your film's a comedy forget it.

So *beep* true.

I have no idea how Rosie Perez was nominated. I could not stand her in this film. Bridges should have been nominated for sure.

Scent of a Women was the year before.

Jeff Bridges lost out with American Heart, Fisher King for oscar nods. And I think at least a golden globe nod was owed for Big Lebowski and Door in the Floor.
