not too white

I am not too white to enjoy this movie. I don't listen to hip-hop and I don't speak jive, but this was a funny movie. Sure it isn't too deep, but I like satire, and this was clever, not biting. Seeing a black man's movie about the rap life style didn't exclude me from enjoying the commentary. How bad was the 'hood you grew up in? Did you ever have to strong arm your way into your own concert? The scene with five people with guns, in a small hotel room, each trying to intimidate one person while protecting themselves from another, was hysterical.

It doesn't matter what race you are. Every human will enjoy this movie as long as you have a sense of humour.

Namaste, and good luck.

Well if we are going to be white about this...

...I am hoping the DVD has the deleted scenes on it because I would LOVE to know what the HELL role Ric Ocasek from the Cars played! His name shows up in the full credits on imdb

For the record, I'm both whiter than sour cream (to quote Yankovic) and a girl, and this is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. One of my teachers showed it to us a while back, and I almost died laughing. The only negative thing is I haven't been able to find it in any stores or rental places since then, so I've been sort of jonesing for it for two months.

I don't speak jive either, but I think this is possibly one of the funniest movies ever made. Right up there with Spinal Tap!

Jive....speak jive? WTF. Turkey!

reply

Exactly.

Maybe the Pope and the Queen and other super elites still speak jive at Bilderberg meetings and when they're doing reptilian dance-offs, but it's not really relevant to enjoying most films, this one included.

There's a bunch of explosive fireworks going off somewhere outside my apartment right now. It sounds like the city's being blown up. Funny how we get accustomed to this war sim. Must freak the sh*t out of babies who are too young to understand that it's not moon-monster invasion. Or worse things that baby minds make up because they're still working out the boundaries of perceived reality. Babies would be freaking out that giant chicken popcorn was going to eat their planet and car tires were trying to kill their mommy, and that humans are meant to ride on dogs until their about 3, just like grownups have horses.

Anyway, I guess I got off track. The point is, we're all just people.

and that is another sign and more proof that isn't needed that this is one of the best comedies and films ever made. you don't have to like rap music or be black to love this film. and everything feels so authentic for the rap world and realistic. its completely believable and so lovable with the 3 rap musicians. they strike the perfect balance between being hardcore and being kind of silly and tongue in cheek with these characters. so that way they are never mean spirited, misogynistic, or unlikable. but they are totally believable as hardcore rap artists.

also the comedy is pitch perfect and so clever and imaginative witty, unique, original, and creative, and imaginative. and it never feels dated which is an huge accomplishment because movies about rap music and rap bands and the music industry usually feel dated after 20 years but this film is still just as good as it was when it was made.

they had the ambition to make the best comedy ever made and they just about accomplished this amazing feat. and they made just about the best film that they could possibly make about a rap band, the music industry, or rap music, or rappers, or a rapper. this is the real deal and is a true original film.

there has never been and never will be a film about the music industry, the rap world, a rap band, or rappers, or a rapper that is as good as this film.
