The ultimate spoof!

Spoofs, when good, are among my favorite movies. Some of my favorites are Dr. Strangelove, Best in Show, Spinal Tap, Airplane, Groove Tube, and some others. But I have to admit this one is my top choice.

The topic Reiner chose had to be one of the hardest ones to make a good spoof of, but it succeeded, IMO. I've watched this with people who didn't get most of the humor and I even felt a bit guilty laughing so hard as they said "What's so funny?" My response was, "you either get it or you don't." None of the humor could be explained in this or any of the other ones.

This was just on TV this morning and I thought it was hilarious! I didn't see the entire show, just coming onto it about halfway thorough, but I could certainly see which movies it spoofed.

I want to pick this one up for my own DVD library for sure.

I think this movie is definitely underrated. I don't understand why! Armand Assante was hilarious. I thought they did a pretty good job at mixing all the story lines. Everytime I watch it, I realize just how many movies they are spoofing. Cape Fear, Sleeping with the Enemy, Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, Double Indemnity, Chinatown, Body Heat(am I missing any?) and it's all coherent! One of my favorite spoofs.

It even just makes fun of corny lines from old thrillers.
"I'm way ahead of you" is in The Postman Always Rings Twice, 1946
"There are two kinds of women... The other kind..." is in Blonde Fever, 1944
"I don't know what I'd do without you" is in Raw Deal, 1948
