Different edit of opening scenes?

Greetings,

I had Falling Down on VHS when first released twenty-five years ago. I could have sworn that the opening traffic jam scene depicted both Douglas & Duvall see the same tagged billboard—the little man drowning within the woman's massive cleavage. Douglas scowls at it—further evidence of the decline of western civ, while Duvall is amused by the tagger's sense of satire. I thought it suggested important differences in their outlooks, which of course would be later magnified.

Seeing it again just a short while ago, that was obviously not the case. D-Fense's experience is clearly a homage to Mastroianni's in 8 1/2. He never sees the massive cleavage billboard at all.

Is this just me, misremembering, or was the initial release a different edit?

I am not completely sure but I would say that D-fence never sees the colossal cleavage billboard. There is then just one edit of the opening scenes.

Probably you mis-remembering it. Memory is fluid, not set. I was convinced for years that I'd seen a version of She's Having a Baby where the girl dies in labour, but I'd mind-melded the Kate Bush video of the song from that scene.

I would say you're probably misremembering this because why would they bother editing it? Don't feel bad I misremember things like this quite often!
