I wonder if Vince Gilligan was inspired by this movie, there are some similarities between Walt and Foster's character.

You might be onto something. Did you see Better Call Saul? While the characters are not similar but Howard Hamlin looked and sounded exactly like Michael Douglas.

Probably, although the idea of a white collar guy getting fed up with their drab life is somewhat common in fiction, Breaking Bad and Falling down take things to the next level and turn them into criminals.
