Filmed in wake of Riots ('92), U think LAPD squashed the release?

I was watching 'Extreme' on EPIX, when a thought occured to me. This film was shot in 1992, shortly after the L.A. Riots in late April/ early May.
Does anyone think the LAPD might have forced Trimark to NOT relase this film wide, given the black eye it gives the police force?
I'm curious, although given the film, they might have just let this dog go direct to video without a fight.
