We need a DVD set of Exo Squad!

reply

Yes, we do need a DVD set for this awesome animation series.

reply

I agree. but if we're the only ones clamoring for it, we'll probably never see it.

But what I don't get is how every other TV show that no one cares about at all gets released on DVD.

reply

What a great show. Needs a DVD!

reply

I know I'd buy the boxed set.

You should check out www.tvshowsondvd.com, great source of news and a way to get stuidos to take notice, the more people vote for a show the better the odds.

reply

Until a DVD comes out, just check on eBay and you can find people selling the entire series on cd. You'll need to watch in on your computer on either realplayer or windows media, but that's usually included on the disk if you're worried about not having that. The quality isn't terrible and it's the best thing until a dvd comes out.

reply

The quality was supposedly good even on the latter episodes, and he or she even included nice extras like neat cover art on the case and the discs themselves, but they have not been listed for some time. Unfortunately, I was moving at the time and passed on the opportunity to get them while I could for just a few dollars (I still kick myself to this very day). Now all I have are a shoddy set on VHS and another on VCD.

The worse of it is that this show is well on its way to complete oblivion. Universal has stopped producing even Season 1 VHS copies, and the show has not aired anywhere for years, so there is no avenue whatsoever to expand on the surviving cult following. The studio just seems content to let the show gather dust in its vaults until it is completely forgotten.

i seen a set of exo squad DVD's on ebay the other day it had the whole series

reply

they're bootleg DVDs that somebody burned, and they're the same as the episodes you can buy on CD-R, just burned to a DVD. still (relative to a dvd you would buy in a store) low quality

reply

check out www.exosquad.com The guy there is selling all the episodes on 4dvds for $55. That's where i got mine and almost all of the episodes are very good quality.

reply

I feel sort of lucky in this group. I have the entire series on VHS (good quality recordings done on HI-Fi VCR's) as well as almost the entire toyline.

"Oh, I have those, too. What kind of emotional problems does your dad have?"

Be warned, I bought it from the same guy and the first season is just about flawless, the second season (vast majority of the episodes) are bad VHS tape quality and slightly grainy. Enough to see alright, but will get annoying. A few episodes have bad video/audio sync. Still, better than nothing.

Here's something to salivate over. Why not a game? I'm talking about combining the storyline and the gameplay of Exo-Squad, and a few games like Homeworld 2 (space tactical sim), Freespace 2 (space flight sim), and a mix of Mechwarrior/Descent (1st/3rd person mech shooter).

Mix up missions between entire fleet command (two big missions, first where Marcus dies and you have to retreat, second is attack on venus/earth). Other missions like attacking the pirates (in the begining), doing ground runs on Mars, Venus, Earth, then go to the ground in all the major battles. It would also be great to fly/fight inside a few buildings as well. Mix up 30-40 missions and you can replay the entire storyline (minus the 'filler' episodes).

That would be a game truly worth buying, what does everyone think?

reply

Yes, definetly. I always thought Exo Squad could be made into a decent game considering the technology we have today. There was one on the genesis awhile back but it wasnt that great (kinda the fact that it was 2d and all, and it just really flat out sucked).

reply

HAHA! I have that game. I had it ordered from Babbages (Gamestop now) for like 4 months.

It does suck. You can only play as J.T. Marsh, Wolf Bronski, and Rita Torres. That's it. Marsh's levels are all flying ones where you are constantly looking at his back trying to avoid asteroids and crap. Bronski's are the side scrolling adventure levels. Rita Torres' are all fight sequences where you get attacked by a single Neosapien E-Frame and you duke it out Mortal Kombat style. I played that game forever and the levels just repeat and repeat. Plus the story line is all screwed up...like you're in back in time trying to keep the Neos from killing off the Terans or some crap. Very TNG crew versus the Borg. Only not as "cool". It does come with a 1 on 1 battle mode where you can play as Rita Torres or like 4 different Neo frames.

I'm just surprised no one has taken a copy of Mechwarrior and modded it up to be a complete Exosquad game. Change the different Mechwarrior machine things into different E-Frames with different specials. Set up the mission editor and environments to mimic stuff from the game. There was a Battlefied 1942 mod that was all ExoSquad but it's dead now..which I assume means you can't find it anywhere or the game doesn't handle it.

I had "The Fall of the NeoSapes" that I had taped when it was originally aired.

The problem with the syndicated release, is that they always change the episodes. They did this with The X-Men from 1992-96. The fooking CHANGED a bunch of stuff... I had almost every ep of that, but on BETA. I had a damn Beta machine my dad was too cheap to buy a VHS.

The Beta was better quality video, but my machine broke down about 5 years ago... It was about 20 years old. I had to throw away my beta video collection: GRRR. I had a lot of first run stuff, and the quality was excellent, and the Sony Beta machine I had had a great editing function on it, I was able to get rid of all the commercials.

But I WANT A Hi-Res DVD of this show with 5.1 surround sound DAMMIT AHAhahahaha!

I got the version that I downloaded from Bit-Torrent, but most of them are ASF files (Windows Media SUCKS ARSE)- with a few RM files.

I must needs go now and see If I can drag and drop RM files into a Sony DVD Architect project:

Hey! I'll make a DVD of any three eps that anyone wants: That's what I am doing now: I am converting the AVI/WMV/ASF and RM files to DVDs.

I am even putting Chapters in the eps. Haha.

I am just doing this for my own convenience, I WILL go and buy the entire series if they release it. Besides, there is no law against TAPING a show and letting someone borrow that show is there? Universal don't really give a poop about low res copies of a show. If someone was disturbing hi res copies of it, they'll come down on them.

reply

I DLed something a while back, but I think it wasn't the whole series (don't recall 52 eps, more like 22) and the quality was TERRIBLE. Like postage-stamp-sized. I really miss this show and would love to have it on DVD. Even if it was decent VHS rips from TV.

I have an old tape with a bunch of episodes (12-15 probably) but it's so old and used that it doesn't even really play anymore. The sound is totally done for, and the image just shakes and freaks out.

I think about the show every couple of months, and check to see if I can find it. But never have any luck.

I have been fiending for some Exo-squad after I went home to visit and found my old exo-squad toys in the upstairs closet. I was hoping to hear positive news on the DVD set, but after reading this I am very discouraged...

I never knew how it all ended. I was watching it on UPN 20 in DC and they cancelled the show in the middle of the week right before the climatic battle of good vs. evil. I have never recovered.

Thank you fellow geeks and nerds for feeling my pain.

If there has been one show in recent history that more than deserve's to be put on DVD it is Exo Squad. I have my share of VCR tape's,Laserdisc's and DVD's
and what is sorely lacking in this collection is Exo Squad. The network I watched it on completely showed 3/4s of the episode's out of order. The voice actor's are top's in the field. We know and love them and they really brought maturity to the genre. What other people would just call a "CARTOON" I call a modern retelling of Frankenstein with spaceship's,rayguns and treachery within each faction in the show. I've emailed Universal several time's and seeing what format's this was released on(2 laserdisc's and 7 vhs tape's) it can simply just be said, Finding the right word's to tell Universal this show need's to be released as either a box set of all 52 episode's or 2 season set's. I have seen some of the worse show's released on dvd ever and they sale like White Chicks(shudder). Please make this happen and we can guarantee it will sell.
