Am I the only one who enjoyed this without reading the book?

Am I the only one who enjoyed this movie without reading the book? I found this fantastic. What are people talking about.

I saw the movie before I read the book. If you do decide to read it, it will give you a better perspective, but it is enjoyable as it stands.

I just read that same thing - that is was somewhat autobiographical (gotta love Wikipedia). Supposedly Ethan represented Edith, Zeena -- her husband, and Mattie -- her lover. I LOVE this book. The movie was okay, but there were a few major changes I didnt like. At least they didnt end it with Ethan and Mattie sitting on a beach in Florida while Zeena opens a lunch-counter....

In my english class we're reading the book and watching the movie. I had seen the movie before I didn't remember the name till she showed the cover of the book and it got Ethan(liam neeson fan) and Matti on the front and I was like dude I have seen that movie. So, me and like my teacher are the only one who know anything about the movie. But the problem is I haven't seen it in like a couple of years so I can't totally remember the movie very well but as we watch it and read the book it coming to me and she explaining the differences between the two.

Whether or not one enjoys this movie or the book depends on what type of story you like. Some people, like myself, enjoyed this movie because it portrays life in a true light, sadness and all. Some people cannot stand to watch sad movies, only light hearted comedies. I prefer to see life as it really is.

I really enjoyed this movie but now am anxious to read the book.

I totally love this movie, and several years ago I downloaded the book for free from Project Gutenberg online, which is still available that way if anyone is interested in reading it (I remember it being more of a novelette -- in fact, I read the entire thing while on an airplane flight).

It's been a while since I read it, but seems to me at the time that I was reading it that I thought that much of the dialog in the movie came straight from the book and that the movie didn't differ much from the book.

Usually, a book has LOTS of differences and details compared to a movie made from it, but I don't remember that about Ethan Frome. Not that there weren't *any* differences; I just don't remember any significant ones.

I usually follow up a movie I like by reading the book (if it is based on a book) so I can learn more about the characters and so forth, but I don't remember getting much new insight from reading this book. This is not to say that it isn't a good read; just that I don't remember it enhancing what I got from the movie very much (which also credits the movie, IMHO).

I haven't read the book since high school and forgot quite a bit, save that it always reminded me of Bronte's Wuthering Heights. While the movie slightly differed from the book, it was well made and serves as a good refresher, as I never felt compelled to re-read the 'tale'.

Objection, your Honor. You can't preface your second point with first of all.

Just saw the movie without first having read the book. I was blown away by the movie. I like Liam Neeson anyway but the story was compelling. A slow rise in tension to the finale. I will now read the book!

Nope. I love the movie and have never read the book. Although, I think I have it. Maybe I should read it. I've really never been interested.
