Completely Disturbing

Just for the record, I think it is absolutely DISGUSTING that there are people out there crazy enough to kill a pregnant woman, steal her baby out of her body, and then try to pass the baby off as her own--and then acting like nothing happened afterwards! And to think that they commit all these horrific acts only because they can't have children of their own. Okay, first of all, you DON'T do things like that. You just DON'T. It's one of the most unspeakable things I've ever HEARD of, and if you're sick and twisted enough to do something like this, then you're apparently nothing better than an evil, disturbed psychopath such as Dahmer or Bundy, and you should definitely fry in the electric chair!! Or maybe be tortured to death like the way you tortured your poor victims....they didn't deserve to have this happen to them.... Second of all, if you're driven to such desperate measures to have a baby that you'd go through with something like this, then what kind of parent would you be? I shudder just thinking about that. I would hate to think of someone having any kind of contact with kids at all, with this kind of a mental state--let alone actually trying to adopt them! So to all you sickos out there, PLEASE do the entire world a favor: seek pshychiatric help and stay the hell away from our children!

I agree with you completely, Elaine. I think i have seen this movie, though it was a long time ago. I didn't see all of it, but the description of it sounds familiar. Yes, the subject matter is completely awful. I like Kate Jackson a lot and I'll admit, i was sort of disturbed that she would agree to play such a disturbing, sick character. I'm with you; I don't think you can get much worse than killing a pregnant woman and actually stealing the child from her.. well, never mind.. it's too awful to even type out here on this board.

I agree as well. But what is REALLY disturbing is this woman didn't fake pregnancy and steal two babies, one of whose mother she killed, simply out of some strong maternal drive to have a child. She did it for one reason only, to get her married boyfriend to leave his wife and three daughters to be with her. Rita already had two teenage children from a previous marriage and due to a hysterectomy at some point after, was unable to have anymore kids. She cared nothing about having more children, in fact she didn't seem to give a rat's behind about the two she had. However she knew the one thing that Frank, the love of her life always wanted was a son, something his wife had never been able to give him. She just knew if she could give him the boy he always wanted, he would leave his wife and marry her. Which is why I don't know why the freak didn't make sure the first baby was a boy before she stole it. It might have at least saved her a lot of trouble and a murder conviction later on, but I guess in her sick mind, she believed dumbass Frank would still accept the baby girl as his and would leave his family to make one with her. Unbelievable how many sick crazy people are in the world.

You are absolutely right. It was more for the boyfriend than the babies themselves. She wanted her boyfriend to leave his wife not the babies.

The movie reminded me a lot of the woman who "Small Sacrifices" was about. She attempted the kill her 3 kids in order for his boyfriend to leave his wife. he wasn't ready for kids so she thought she'd get rid of her's.

The reason Rita didn't make sure the first stolen baby was a boy was probably because Frank didn't tell her he wanted a boy. Although I can't imagine why Rita never noticed that Frank and his wife had three girls, and thus would strive for a boy to be different. Sorry if I sound crazy, but I'm trying to think like the freak that did this. By the way, does anybody know if the lover wanting a boy was the reason that the woman in the actual story (Norma Jean Armistead) stole those two babies, or was there another reason? I'm interested.

One other thing: I don't think Frank would have left his wife and three daughters if Rita had given him a boy on the first try. It's kind of the same thing that Frank's wife and Rita tried to do with Frank: They both tried to convince Frank that they'd have a boy on their next try with no interest in doing so (well, that was the case with Rita until Frank told her that his wife had given him the same line and he marched out of there in a huff). If Rita gave Frank a boy, he'd come around more often, but he wouldn't actually leave his wife and go through divorce proceedings and child support payments just so he could be with Rita; she was kidding herself on that one.

What's more disturbing is that things like this happen in real life. People going through extremes to take a baby who belongs to somebody else who can't have their own kids. I thought Kate Jackson looked too old to conceive even in this movie though they did not make that the reason why she couldn't have her own. She lost hers if I recall correctly?

she'd had a hysterectomy several years before

To me it didnt look like rita was too old to have more kids. She looked to be about in her late 30's. Yes in the movie she had a hysterectemy. I no. Frank was a jackass too. I mean I understand about him wanting a boy,and if he wanted one so badley him and his wife could have kept trying. Or they could have adopted one.

I think Frank's wife drew the line at having more kids. Three kids is an awful lot to handle, and I don't think she wanted to go to the trouble of being pregnant and having another child. When I was in beauty school, my instructor told us about a man who grew up with four younger sisters and had two daughters with his wife. He begged his wife to 'try one more time' because he desperately wanted a son to carry on the last name, and she agreed to. She became pregnant again, with twins...both girls! (Unfortunately, one died) After that, his wife said that she was absolutely NOT 'going through that again', and I don't blame her. My point is, it is ultimately the woman's choice to have more children.

I watched it today and thought Rita was a selfish bitch stealing two kids from their mothers. What I couldn't stand was Rita was badmouthing Franks wife calling her names like slut, she's not the one in a relationship with a married man.

You saw it recently? Where and when did you see it? I haven't seen it for 15 years, and would really like to see it again sometime.
