Underrated Score

I absolutely love the score for this movie and I know its theme does appear from time to time in trailers and what not. Does anyone else really love the score to this movie?

One of the most underrated musical compositions ever put to film in my opinion. Randy Edelman being snubbed by the Academy Awards is an outrage, seriously, this music is breathtaking and adds so much to the corresponding scenes.

I think it is one of the most famous movie scores that every knows but doesn't know where it originated from. Definately one of the most underrated scores of all time and a shame it didn't win the Oscar or even was nominated for that matter. I think another underrated score is the score from Jurassic Park, writen by John Williams.

The score in this movie was really good I loved it a lot, it added a lot to the movie.

How is that under-rated? Jurassic Park is one of the most recognised scores.

I totally agree, the one song I know from Dragon is "Dragon's Heartbeat" by Edelman, and it is probably one of the most recognizable pieces of music from any film, it's a shame it didn't win an Oscar.

Funny that you mention Jurassic Park because the first THREE Notes of the main theme (at least) are the same as the DRAGON THEME (Main Titles).

I am still wondering-ripoff or coincidence?

Love the music. I own the soundtrack and love to listen to it while in the car on long drives. Very uplifting.

Also, I love that it's used for other movie trailers. Someone will usually say, "Where have I heard that music?" I like being the one who knows. It's just one of those scores that is so memorable. The score from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is also of the same caliber.

The music in the Trailer made me want to see the movie.

in what other movies might I have heard that score?
´ppreciate it.

You wouldn't have heard it in another movie - you would have heard it playing as the background music for another movie's trailer. There have been several, including TV commercials, but I can't think of one right now.

Superb film score although a shame it`s relatively hard to obtain on CD now.Took me a lot of searching and waiting before getting a copy on ebay.Heartbeat of the Dragon is an exceptional track, cleverly bringing all the main themes together in one uplifting experience.

the ending is very good. i like how the movie ends. even though we know the outcome the film still manages to capture him at the pinacle. seeing him on the top of the building thing, happy and the music plays its great.

it captures all the things that drove him to be the best.

reply

I agree. I wasn't really expecting much of a score but it was certainly noticable. I loved it.

I'd hate to be a jerk, but honestly, I think the main theme of this film is one of the most obtrusive, incongruent, and overly-occuring scores in a film I've ever heard, and found it quite annoying.

I'm sorry for going against the tide here, but honestly, I was logging onto this website to see if anyone else shared my sentiments, ironically just to see the opposite.

The score was used in the teaser trailer for Forest Gump and later used for Olympics commercials

I hear this music all of the time for promos and I never knew it came from this movie until I saw it today for the first time in years. Actually at first I thought this movie was using the music from some other movie it is so popular. So I was pleasantly surprised this is the original score It is indeed very underrated. BUT I do agree with the person who did mention it was obtrusive at times. I agree. A little of this score goes a long way and they used it much too often. But it is a beautiful score on its own.

The music for this film is completely underrated. It's so beautiful. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Greatest score ever in a movie in my opinion.... Followed by Jurrassic Park.

But it doesn't fit the subject matter of the film! ARRRRRGH

And why doesn't it, draptorj?

I wrote that comment so long ago I don't even know what I was thinking. I think mostly it just feels like...a big epic. And while the story of Bruce Lee is epic, it's a personal story about a public figure. It could have been toned down ever so slightly.

It's so-overpresented and indulgent. I guess it fits the tone of the movie in any case.

Indeed this is a beautiful score. almost 20 years later and I never forgot about it.

reply

yep very good score... shame that it was wasted on a so-so film. the stars must've aligned for randy edelman 'cause he never did anything memorable since. (with the exception of macgyver, but that was written before dragon.)

the score kinda reminded me of ladyhawke's score, except ladyhawke's score was much more out of place. both were great.

reply

This is not true. Just 3 years later, he did the music for the Dennis Quaid film, Dragonheart and that too is one of his best scores and another one that has been used by other sources.
