Isn't it time for a remake?

I mean they do it to every other movie. I think its time this movie has a remake and refranchised to a modern market. Alyssa Milano could return maybe as a villain or something with a line like "Charmed, I'm sure".

I'm rewatching this now after not seeing it for YEARS!!!!

Anyone think its time? what would you like to see happening in it?

Remake? No way.

Re-adaption of the game? That would be cool but Double Dragon was already kinda passé when this movie came out and sadly it's mostly forgotten these days. =/

I would like to see a Double Dragon movie based on "Double Dragon II: The Revenge" on the NES. That game already had primitive cinematic cut-scenes in it, so the basic story for the movie could just follow those.

I'm thinking it should basically just be a cheesy martial arts/action movie, but since the Double Dragon franchise was always set in the not-too-distant future where -- among other things -- the U.S. had succumbed to economic competition from the Far East, Asian cultural products had displaced American ones, society was partially or mostly collapsed and the decayed urban areas were controlled by gangs of karate-kicking thugs, it would be interesting if the movie -- like the games -- were set in the year 2007 as it was envisioned in the year 1987.

In short, I think it should probably look like Blade Runner meets The Warriors. The filmmakers should also use the necessary lighting, film stock, production design, et cetera to deliberately make the movie look like it was shot in the 1980s, and use a period-faithful synth-crap soundtrack. I think all of that would look pretty slick, and enough people would like it, even if it were just a dumb popcorn movie.

I really like that idea.

That would be good. For a new Double Dragon movie, it should either have that 80s gritty style to it or a animated movie in the style of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.

I don't think it'll ever happen.

I do have a suggestion though: Check out the Van Damme movie "Double Impact" (1991)

It's arguably a more accurate Double Dragon movie than Double Dragon is. 

Van Damme plays two roles. Twins who were separated at birth and are reunited to take down an organization that killed their parents.

There's a bunch of parallels... JCVD plays Alex and Chad (Billy and Jimmy?) it also has a Linda equivalent and even an Abobo substitute (although far less ridiculous) played by Bolo Yeung(!) The very guy that Double Dragon II's Bolo (the long-haired Abobo lookalike) is named after.

Sure, it's a bit of a stretch, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was influenced by the DD games. Like I said, it's no further removed from the source material than the DD movie is. (closer, if anything)

i did watch double impact because im a childhood fan of double dragon movie (and the games of course)

and yeah its close enough for sure
just like evil dead and from dusk till dawn is closer to resident evil games than the crappy films

reply

Erm, no?
It's a movie based on a silly beat'em up game from years gone by. If you "remake and refranchise to a modern market", what's left!? It would be a generic martial arts movie about something nobody remembers, just with CGI. Watchers would probably think it's a cheap knockoff of Ken and Ryu of Streetfighter. No, thanks.
