Patrick was a writer, like Paul in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Patrick was trying to write a horror version of Breakfast at Tiffany's. Drew Barrymore's name was Holly Gooding, Audrey Hepburn's name was Holly Golitely. In both movies they had a brother named Fred. Cute little riddle they have incorporated into this kind of a movie. Did anyone see any similarities between Doppelganger and Breakfast at Tiffany's that I didn't get?

i was going to make a crack about audrey hepburn's mitosis being less slimy, then i recalled that both movies had holly in a twisted father -- or father surrogate (buddy ebsen) --daughter relationship -- speaking of slime.

The filmmakers' idea of subtext, very grade school. Wonderfully bad film, in a "Manos" sort of way.
