Sliders?

Sounds like a similar plot.

Of course it's similar. Note that Sliders began in 1995, Doorways in 1993.

What you don't want to do is mention that to George Martin.

Right!

They previewed this at the 1992 World Science Fiction Convention in Orlando, Florida. I saw it and thought it was very good.

Years later, I saw GRRM at a science fiction convention and told him how much I enjoyed it. He thanked me and he said that the thought "Sliders" was ripping off his idea.

Of course, today you can say that living well is the best revenge.

Yes,Doorways & Sliders share similarities. Both premises involve traveling to parallel Earths in different dimensions. In Doorways, the character of Cat,who was from another Earth,is fleeing her captors & escapes with the technology from that world that allows her to travel to alternate Earths.Whereas on Sliders genius Quinn Mallory, who is from our Earth, has all by himself invented the machine that opens vortexes to other Earths. It was a mistake as Quinn was attempting to create an anti-gravity device & accidentally created a sliding device.I found the Doorways scenario as a better conceived one.Having someone from another Earth bring the tech to our Earth seems more believable to me.Whose to say another Earth could not create such marvelous tech? Having Quinn invent such a machine without immense resources never rang true, along with the fact we are nowhere near actually inventing it. Doorways involved two people,Sliders involved four people. The leads on Doorways were pursued by vicious beings from Cat's home world. No one was chasing the Sliders until they ran across the Kromags.Once a door opened to another Earth on Doorways,Tom & Cat could never return to the world they were currently on.That would include Tom's Earth, our Earth. The Sliders are hoping to return to their Earth one day with each slide.Due to an accident with the Timer, the device that opens up portals to parallel Earths, they can only continue to make slides until,& if,they reach their home planet.I am a fan of both Sliders & Doorways.I wish Doorways had been picked up by ABC as a weekly show.It had enormous potential with George R.R.Martin at the helm.
