First Draft

I have a copy of the first draft script by George R.R.Martin dated 11/27/1991. The opening of the story of Cat mysteriously appearing in L.A.& meeting Tom & being interrogated by Federal Agents & pursued by the darklords is exactly the same.Once Tom & Cat go through a doorway though they land on an alternate Earth unlike the one on the TV pilot movie.They land in Wyoming & its in the middle of a blizzard.The 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis results in a nuclear war between the U.S. & the U.S.S.R.Radioactive contamination,crops destroyed,loss of power,& so forth result in a post-apocalyptic Earth.I enjoyed the TV-movie plot but this script was also intriguing.Had Doorways become a weekly TV show as I wished it had,George R.R.Martin could easily have utilized this script as a later episode.The ending is also different.In the movie Cat & Tom jump to a world where they are on Mt.Rushmore.We see the faces carved there as Susan B.Anthony,Ben Franklin,Davey Crockett,& a Native American.It ends there.I liked it.In the script version Tom & Cat are in a forest,see a castle in the distance,then an arrow flies above Tom's head & ends up in a tree.
