Okay, playing writer, producer, and director here, I'm going to say that in Cocteau's world, no one would ever think of using a museum piece to commit murder/death/kill and ruin everyone's joy joy moments.

It's also easy to assume that Cocteau arranged for someone to load those weapons as he figured that Simon Phoenix would look for weapons and could only find them there.
