Pink also isn’t the jock type like Mitch or Benny and the writers did make the similarities between Mitch and Pink pretty obvious with the shared baseball history.

Regardless posture or attitude the Mitch baseball scene also showed that through his talent he’ll earn status in high school and probably be the next Pink.

Overall I’m not that impressed by the actor who played Mitch though, off all the characters he looked a little bleak and inexperienced in comparison.

Wiley Wiggins who played Mitch wasn't an actor. Linklater saw him walking around Austin and thought he looked good for the part. With that in mind, I think he did a great job.

reply

his cringeworthy performance makes me shudder just thinking about it

reply

he's kinda funny in the virtual reunion read explaining how awkward he was & felt filming the movie

reply

That was the point of him playing this character. He was naturally awkward and that's what we experience. Do you think we all walk around talking and looking like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Matthew Mac? Hell, I know everyone who looks at me thinks of George Clooney, right? I wish !

reply

And ya know, thinking how he is Jody's brother, he probably knew of her classmates. They seemed to know who he is. I'm sure he thought it strange and surreal to be hanging with her sister's classmates all of a sudden.

reply

Yeah, that's what I like about the movie and Linklater in general. He makes a point of his films seeming like a reflection of real life. We get enough absurd depictions already.

reply

You know Damon wasn't in this, right?

reply

Yes, I do, as well as Clooney.

My point was a lot of us feel more like Mitch than some of the handsome and well built stars like Aff', Mac, Damo and the Cloonz. Gives the film a kind of veracity I like, especially when seeing it in a movie theater.
As a corollary, I like(d) Emma Stone, but I also can easily get burned out on Emma Stone if she keeps appearing in silly movies like Cruella.
Mitch seemed like a real kid in something close to a fictional documentary.

He was probably a different guy after that night though. Likely first time getting drunk, he got abused and also got revenge.

But most importantly he got laid. And definitely at a younger age then most teen boys. Maybe not for 75 I'm not sure haha.

But I'm sure that night would have changed his projectory for the rest of his hs career.
Plus he was cool with Pink which helped a lot too.

reply

He didn't get laid, just made out with the girl for a few hours (remember those virginity days of long make out sessions?) until the sun started to come up. I thought it was sweet.

reply

Do we definitely know he didn't get laid?

reply

Yes, it is actually referred to in the table read the cast did a few weeks ago. The narrator prefaces the scene with something to the effect of "After a long make out session with Julie, Mitch arrives home...blah blah blah", but I knew, well am pretty sure, that at that age and the fact that they were fully dressed, nothing happened other than kissing.

reply

Well he won't be a carbon copy of Pink, but instead his own person. Maybe even cooler than Pink is, at least to some.

Cool people don't think they're cool, and I think Pink and Mitch fit that definition.

reply

Good observation. Could not have said it better myself. Kudos.
