The Breakfast Club, now that's a real teenager movie, this one is DUMB

I only saw Dazed and Confused because it's in Tarantino's list of best movies from 1992 and I can see why, he was probably one of the cool kids of this movie, yes in fact he dropped school and became a genius, clap clap.

But for the rest of us adolescence was a bitch!

This movie is totally the opposite of the breakfast club, stereotypes all over, kids being presented as stupids and drunk stoners, it just wasted my time.

First time I disagree with Quentin.

Yep read it wrong, my mistake.

Still, Dazed and Confused does something very similar..showing that this young kid who isn't one of the cool kids can become friends with and relate to the cooler older kids.

It also shows that the jocks aren't always these cocky, bullying *beep*

It's a good movie, I'm sorry YOU didn't like it, but many did. In fact they have very similar ratings on IMDB (BC ahead by 0.2) and Dazed and Confused has better ratings on RottenTomatoes.

Made you look!

I am a fan of both movies. I thought Dazed and Confused was an excellent time piece reflecting the late 70s, post Vietnam era. They way they portrayed the cliques was hysterical. Yes the film focuses on the popular kids, but remember the "uncool" kids do have their proud moments in the film. The incoming freshmen get O'Bannion with the paint; Mike dumps his beer over Clint and gets a really good shot in; Tony gets Sabrina; and of course Mitch Kramer who got the worse paddling of all ends up having a great night and gets a sophomore girl.

Dazed & Confused just like TBC shows the highs and lows of being a teen. I love both, but they are also very different imo. I actually like Dazed better because I can relate to a few of the characters more.

I only watched The Breakfast Club like a few days ago, and to be hoenst I much much more prefffered Dazed & Confused - much stronger script, much more likeable cast & characters, more variety...I was completely drawn to the film from 1st scene onwards.

TBC may be a more intelligently written script, however I didnt buy the whole acting thing from 2 of the characters (the lonely girl in particular), and I felt like it was a very long movie for what it wanted to portray...a bunch of kids sitting in detention. I get the whole intellectual factors this movie tried to portray, but it just didn't convinve me enough in the enetertaining factor. I actualy was bored in some of the scenes.

Dazed & Confused is a movie I can re-visit multiple times and feel like I am on a journey along with Slater and everyone else...it doens't get bored and I am completely hooked and smiling ear-to-ear from the beginnning till end.

So what part is funny again? I honestly didn't laugh ONCE, not even the overdone hazing scenes. Yawn.

If you think Tarantino was one of the cool kids, you really really really need a realitycheck!

As a teenager from the 70's I found Dazed and Confused to be pretty darn accurate. No so with the Breakfast club, it's really rather contrived and phony. It's rather ironic you say Dazed and confused is full of Stereotypes, what the hell do you think the characters in the Breakfast club are? The entire cast are stereotypes. Even that being said I do like both movies.

Dazed & Confused seemed to me a 70's update of what Amercian Graffiti was for 50's - pretty nostalgic & I presume drawing on the experiences or memories of the director

The Breakfast Club is maybe the best movie ever in my opinion (then again I'm just THAT guy when it comes to picking the best movies). I don't think the two films differ that much though. Stereotypes was the point of both. Breakfast Club showed that all the different cliques were similar-more than anyone realized, and Dazed and Confused showed those cliques in action WITHOUT using such a realization. But like it or not, cliques are around and both movies portrayed them rather well, just for different purposes.

The day Chuck Norris dies is the day the world ends.

http://www.ew.com/article/2013/03/08/quentin-tarantino-dazed-and-confused-texas-film-hall-of-fame:

Linklater, who was 31 when he made the movie, told EW that he’d wanted to make the flip side of a John Hughes movie. “The drama is so low-key in Dazed. I don’t remember teenage being that dramatic. I remember just trying to go with the flow, socialize, fit in and be cool. The stakes were really low. To get Aerosmith tickets or not? That’s a big thing. It was really rare when the star-crossed lovers from the opposite side of the tracks and the girl gets pregnant and there’s a car crash and somebody dies. That didn’t really happen much. But riding around and trying to look for something to do with the music cranked up, now that happened a lot!”

He's not saying that movies like that were fake, though. Filmmakers use their personal experiences and their views of the world. The different visions is the reason why there are so many genres and styles. By the way:

THE BREAKFAST CLUB: 9/10
DAZED AND CONFUSED: 8/10
stereotypes all over, kids being presented as stupids and drunk stoners

Not all of them.
