Both of these songs appear here in this movie during Matthew McConaughey scenes, and appear again in his later film 'Sahara'. Wonder if these are two personal favorites of his or just coincidence?

Interesting. Very well could be. McConaughey has paid tribute to this character and this film in so many different ways over the years. Plus, many of the Dazed cast remained or are still friends, from what I could tell, at least in the sense that there seem to be connections that pop up often. There are a whole slew of movies that feature one or more of the actors together, such as Rory Cochrane in Ben Affleck's "Argo," or Anthony Rapp and Adam Goldberg in "A Beautiful Mind."
shareInteresting thought but I doubt it just because Richard Linklater apparently spent an enormous amount of time on the music and picking the exact right songs for every scene. I don't think he'd have just turned that over to a first time actor.
