How is 'Everybody wants some' compared to this?

Dazed and confused is my all time favorite movie, but how is Everybody wants some? Is it just as good? Better?

I think you'll be sorely disappointed. I didn't think Everybody Wants Some looked very good from the trailers, but when I saw the glowing reviews, I decided to give it a whirl.

I thought it was awful. It was as if Linklater had given in to pressure to make some kind of Dazed sequel. The whole thing feels forced and compromised. Even the wigs are horrendous. Apart from a scene or two, the movie slogs along....and along. I was thankful for the credits and felt mildly depressed, especially recalling how much I had loved Dazed.

There are numerous differences, perhaps most glaring is that the majority of characters in EWS are extremely unlikable and one-sided. By contrast, Dazed had its bully, but was front loaded with a variety of interesting, three-dimensional individuals. Besides, it was very funny and had cool factor to spare. EWS simply does not feel "cool" at all. Its characters are nearly all complete jerks.

everybody wants some's reviews are all over the place, much like the film. i actually liked it overall, it is true to its tagline as a spiritual sequel, but better it is not. if you like dazed i recommend everybody wants some.

EWS was an enjoyable film if you don't go in expecting Dazed 2. They are very different movies

Everybody Wants Some!! is not as good as D&C but considering how great a movie D&C is that's not too surprising. That being said I'm definitely in the camp that Everybody Wants Some!! is a quality film. It's way way way different that D&C though. It's not a typical beginning-middle-end film. It's a meditation on a 3 day time period before the main character starts college classes. Each scene has something subtle or not-so-subtle to convey. I loved it but it's probably not for everyone.

My husband watched it bc we love love Dazed he said it was absolutely horrible and has no idea why it was even made

Maybe the 80s will be...radical?

The sarcasm in that statement was hard to miss. EWS covers Linklater's ambivalence about the era. Its focus is the transition from the Me Decade, which was aggressively individualist, to Morning in America, which was a yearning for a return to something more tribal. There's actually a scene where you find yourself rooting for the "team first" guy.

No, it's nearly as funny as Dazed. And I think people unfairly dismiss it as a movie about "a bunch of frat guys hanging out". But the more time goes by, the more relevant it seems.
