A compently well made thriller that needed

Perhaps a studio corporation that wasn't going out of business? You can so tell by the way the film suddenly ends with zero closure is a sign that the people backing the film weren't in a good state. Mind you that the film was shot and "shelved" for like two years. I heard rumors that the film had a lot of budget problems.

No wonder George Romero has quit the studio scene. He became exhausted with the process. He's mentioned in interviews when he made this and "Monkey Shines" as well as with "Day of the Dead", he had constant studio interference to put up with that became very annoying after a while.

Ultimately the final product has some good qualities to it. Terrific make up on George Stark in the final act. The acting all around wasn't bad. The film brought a certain nostalgic feel to it. It was rated R just for the sake of having blood splatter and F bombs dropped left and right for no reason. Infants being in a room of violence, all of it is fairly uncommon in today's movie world where everything is PG-13, violence and scenes of action become very quick cut and the soundtrack must be whatever is the latest pop music, The Dark Half is a good throwback slasher flick that had potential to be a more complicated psychological thriller.

It was also nice to see the highly under-appreciated actor, Michael Rooker as the cop character.

6 or 7 out of 10 seems right.
