The legend of the doppelganger has always fascinated me, but I don't think it has been explored enough in films. Do any of you have any recommendations? (Not interested in sci-fi films about cloning)
There is a movie called Doppelganger, which stars Drew Barrymore. I saw it a long time ago, and can't really remember if I liked it or not. But it's definitely about a doppelganger.
I saw Drew Barrymore's "Doppelganger". Even though I haven't seen most of the comedic or romantic movies in which she has starred, in my opinion, "Doppelganger" should probably be omitted from her curriculum vitae. There is also a more recent Japanese movie by the same title, but the story is different. I haven't seen that one, but from what I've read, it seems to be of much better quality.
There are two great tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want. The other is getting it.
A definate for doppelganger stuff is a few Lynch films maybe such as Mulholland Drive or the more relevant Lost Highway which is all to do with alter-egos. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me has a few moments of doppelganger action however don't watch it before you've seen the TV Series is my suggestion :)
The "Double First" episode from Believe Nothing, where Adonis Cnut is being framed for a murder which his evil clone commited. This episode has the typical dilemma: Who's the clone and who's the real one. Well, the clone has no d**k.
Albumen: So your clone murdered professor Brimsley? Adonis: Yes, so I get the blame. You've got to find him before he leaves the country. Albumen: Okay Sir...what does he look like? (Adonis stares at him)
The ultimate film that deals with a doopelganger is 'the man who haunted himself' starring the great roger moore in probably the only film in which he actually trys to act. :)
Strangers on a Train should definitely be mentioned here. Not doppelganger, per se, but the whole nature of duality has never seen a more thorough working-through.
(By the way, did anyone else notice the use of Elvis in the soundtrack as it relates to the whole twin issue? It was a nice touch...)
MOVIES: MirrorMask The Lake (1998) Nightmare Street The Broken (2008) Dark Mirror (2007) The Man Who Haunted Himself Sprits of the Dead, "William Wilson" segment Doppelganger w/Drew Barrymore~very bizarre, thus must be mentioned again
TV episodes: Twilight Zone, "Mirror Image" The Twilight Zone, "Shatterday" Monsters, "All in a Day's Work" Hammer House of Horror "The Two Faces of Evil" Alfred Hitchcock Presents, "The Case of Mr. Pelham"
