for those who did not like this film

ive just got to ask... why not?

dont get me wrong, im not saying that i enjoyed watching this film. it was a very hard film to watch and made me very uncomfortable watching it but a good film is a good film no matter what the content.

the script was great and the director was a genious. there really aren't that many directors out there who could pull off what they did.

all four main actors did the best job i have ever seen in a movie. i have never seen a better performance out of anyone in my entire life.

and as painful as every single scene in this movie were ive got to say they this is one of the best films i have seen in a long time. all of the other movies out there that i thought were the best arent nearly as good as this. it has really changed the way i look at these crappy hollywood blockbuster releases.

but i dont want anybody to think that i sat through this movie with a smile on my face and a hard on. it was very hard to sit through

Dangerous Game aint bad. Ferrara has done much better, though (Bad Lieutenant, King of New York, Ms. 45, The Funeral). He's also done far worse. It gets better towards the end; the scenes involving Mother of Mirrors bore me, mainly because the film they're making doesn't look like a very good one. James Russo grates on the nerves after a while, and the conflict between Madonna's character and her husband (in Mother of Mirrors) isn't a very interesting one. The film has many admirable qualities, though, there's no doubt about that.

I think there are people that dont rate a film because Madonnas in it.

A shame really because she is amazing in this.

The reason is because there is nobody in this movie worth caring about. That and none of them were doing anything interesting. Ever. In Ferarra's other movies which don't suck there are shootings, interesting characters and wild behavior, but this was just dull. There was no reason to care about the boring dull director who is full of himself, his wife who wasn't believable for a lot of the movie, and especially the two actor characters. If we could actually care about them their exchanges might be interesting but if we don't care if either of them lives or dies, what's the point? You might as well play a video game.

the characters are dark and unsympathetic and offer no likable qualities or easy answers; that's the point.

Shuji Terayama forever.

Madlyn is a character with genuine emotion and New York values outside the Hollywood performance scene of her husband which makes her a sympathetic foil to the rest.

So I can see both how Madonna disliked it so strongly while also acknowledging that all the roles she had before were trivial and "soul destroying" in comparison. But Harvey Keitel also agreed the plot structure and editing were not that strong so it wasn't only her supposedly paranoid, unschooled opinion.

reply

Because it has no plot.

The movie is boring, but mainly the main issue is the film-within-a film. That thing is ridiculous and the dialogues are laughable. "The suburban hell, the consumerism, the horror", who talks like that? Who writes that crap? The fact that that garbage made up 70% of the movie is the reason I gave it a 1/10.
