I saw the first "Cyborg" back in the day when it first came on video, the VHS days.

Yeah.

Done. Never have to see it again, have zero desire to rewatch.

I picked up the sequel in a Mexican grocery store a few years back for four bucks. Bought it because I'm a collector's and noticed that it came with a slipcover that was vastly different from the DVD's wraparound.

As it turns out Lionsgate got the rights to the movie from Trimark. Instead of re-issuing a new cover, which would require repackaging the DVD. They opted to just make a slipcover and put over the older image. You don't see too many of those.

I recalled watching this flick in the mid-1990s on TV, but only in snippets. There was usually something better on.

Today, this afternoon after having it for years, I pulled it out and watched.

Found it enjoyable. The score, at least in the beginning - reminds me a lot of "Aliens3". The rest feels like poor synthesizing. And I'm a fan of synthwave. I wonder how much better the overall mood could be improved with a score from Action Jackson, Betamaxx or Mega Drive? Though it would be various shades of awesome with Perturbator.

As for the film. You can tell a good portion of the money was spent on actual effects such as the motion control camera for the overhead shots of a decaying Los Angeles (pre-CGI, scale models). It's pretty obvious they were going for a "Blade Runner" look.

The story is simple, a point picture; point A to B to C. Nothing wrong with that. The characters were okay, nothing fancy. But I do feel a whole subplot was cut out. Why was the guy in head of Pinwheel trying to sabotage his own company along with his Japanese rivial?

The action was serviceable. If you're gonna compare it to the first film, yeah - you're gonna be disappointed.

And as for Jolie. I'm gonna leave that alone. *smile* She's a pretty, young woman here.

What really surprised me was Jack Palance's role. Normally when smaller budget flick has a big name actor it's in a bit role. Think of Jolie's apperance in "Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow", she got top billing, but is in the feature for maybe three minutes, maybe.

Palance's part as Mercy is actually a huge part of the story and feels natural. He's helping the duo escape for his own interest - revenge on those who killed his love. Plus he just oozes presence. Even as a old man, you know he could kick your ass.

Ha ha, I wonder what it would look like to have, in his prime; Jack Palance as Batman. One thing is certain, he would have change the way he talked as Bruce Wayne, otherwise everyone would know it was him.

Anyhow, I'm keeping the DVD, it's now part of my library.
