Question


Sounds stupid, but why would a country like Jamaica hold 100m Olympic Trials on a dirt track? Surely they could afford a proper running track even in the early eighties.

I'm not a big sports/running person, but maybe dirt WAS the standard in the early eighties. That's the only thing I can think of.

hmmm, well don't you think a better question would be 'why don't they qualify the athletes by time trial instead of by race? speed is the key, once determined the coaches would train them for the track. considering it happened 3 months before the winter games, there was plenty of time for training.

I'm glad you asked that question. They probably did that to play up the Third World country factor. I assure you that we have a world class stadium. I was pretty annoyed at that myself, and I wondered where they even found that stadium because I have certainly never seen it.
