Why was Beldar singing?

I never was sure I got that...why was he singing when he was hiding from the Garthok? The thing can see him, it wouldn't necessarily have to follow his echoing voice. Anybody know?

i think he was singing to get some courage, ppl do weird things under those kind of situations, u know when, ure like going to die.

I don't know, but he should have brought his towel.

Probably also to distract the Garthok while fixing his stick into a golf club.

He was singing "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell. He was forced to listen to it, presumably numerous times by his daughter and her teenaged friends as he drove them to school, so eventually he learned to like it.

Majorly necroing this thread here because I don't agree with the other posters.

He was forced to listen to it many times on earth with his daughter and he might be about to die so he wants to send her a message, like maybe that he is thinking of her in his final moments, and when he sings it it shows her face and she does a little mouth thing. I feel like it's a goodbye sort of moment but is more subtle and comedic than "I love you, I'll miss you" etc. and acts as a payoff.

If there was any tension in this scene at all, I feel like this would appear clearer on first viewing and would have the intended effect of being a sappy/comedic payoff to the earlier setup. Even though he hated being exposed to the song while on earth, his final thoughts are that he would love to be back there with his daughter he wants her to know that. This explanation is further supported by the fact that we are shown how caring of a father he is throughout the movie - he peeled back Farley's car roof he was so pissed!

@icw_co, that is an excellent interpretation.

Very well said. We did see Connie's face warmed when she heard her dad's voice.
