I thought Delmar was the best of the villains...

Cold, badass British guy who murders Frank.

The sequence when he gets knifed in the leg and blown off the side of the mountain by Hal was one of my favorite scenes, especially the soccer dialogue:
"You like soccah? Great spoht. I was a ****ing good strikah!"

reply

Harlin gave each bad guy their own 'special move':

Delmar: Kills using his 'British soccer skills'.
Kynette: Black man knife skills.
Qualen: Kills girlfriends and intimidates men with camp gestures.
Krystel: Bakes cakes and prepares explosives.
Travers: Knows keycode combinations.
etc.

reply

Heldon: Fires grenade launchers directly up on an avalanche-prone snowy mountain.

reply

Ryan: nightvision

Except that a British person would never call the sport Soccer.

reply

They might, if they were a 'rugger' fan (the term 'soccer' originates from, and is a corruption of 'association' as in 'Association Football'). It is a British word, originating in Britain.

Up here in Scotland, football (or soccer... ok so the term is now almost archaic in Britain) is frequently referred to as fitba'.

No, we dont.

In fact its a source of irritation with Brits if anyone calls it soccer, and they are quick to correct.

From the great British film “This Sporting Life” (1963)
Richard Harris, in his very first movie role, playing a tough northern English coalminer and part-time Rugby League player, who later turns full-time professional
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057578/quotes

Frank Machin: “We don't have stars in this game, Mrs Weaver, that's soccer.”

Mrs. Anne Weaver: “What *do* you have?”

Frank Machin: “People like me.”

And look at this wholly relevant thread from that film’s message boards http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057578/board/thread/99294987

My signature incidentally, as many movie fans will know, is a quote from “The Innocents” (1961)

Have you considered it may have been for the benefit of the American he was speaking to?

reply

Yep. That's what I put it down to.

reply

I think that was probably 'for the Americans' just like how all nationalities spoke English in older films, but with an accent.

What no one comments on is that Craig Fairbass sounds more australian in this film, even though he's british by the numbers in real life. Rise of the Footsoldier is one of his other good films, he's brutal in that.

reply

Craig is an awesome actor, and I always get a kick out of his voice acting work too (eg the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series games).

reply

The shooting of Frank was truly evil, yah Delmar was insane

reply

‘We’ve wasted enough time’

reply

him being so evil mean his death is best part of movie: "seasons over asshole!!" hahahahhahah

and then as he falls down cliff travers sees him from far away and say "i said quietly!" hahahhahaha

this film is great action.
