Was this movie that start of Pacino's gum chewing craze in movies?

I feel like the bulk of Pacino's films from the early 90s and beyond all have at least one or two scenes of Pacino chomping on gum quite intensely. Was this the first one where he does this? I am trying to recall if he does this at all in Sea of Love or Scent of a Woman - I get the impression that the gum chewing took place as he was trying to quit (or cut back) on smoking. I know that Sea of Love is a movie where he is still pretty much a full on chain smoker and he smokes in a few scenes in this film, but not as much as he did in previous projects.

Thoughts?
