Bobby Kennedy

When Sonny gets assassinated, it reminded me of Bobby Kennedy's assassination. Maybe that's what Robert DeNiro was trying to do. It was very similar to the way they show it in the movie and the shot of Sonny lying there reminded me of a shot of Bobby Kennedy lying there when he was shot.
