Can someone PLEASE answer?!!

Why didn't Billie want Paul to take the documents to the paper to expose Harry? I mean I just didn't get it,after everything he did to her why was she trying to protect him?
When she saw that Paul hadn't taken them to the paper after all she said "I'm gonna marry him, casue he finally smartened up" So what did she mean by that exactly?

I just don't get that part,did I miss something?

Someone please expalin.

Thanks

Here's what I think: If Billie and/or Paul turn Harry in for bribery, extortion, embezzlement- whatever slew of things he's guilty of, Billie would be implicated too (or at least lose the companies, which are all in her name). As it ends, with Billie having the controlling interest in all the companies, she has control over Harry for a change, and is able to make the deal of selling them back to him one at a time. She would also be in a better position to help him reform without going to prison. She could hold the companies over his head as bargaining chips and make him promise to stay on the up and up when he did get back on his feet. I don't think she's vindictive enough to want him rotting in jail, but wanting a little financial vengeance is certainly understandable after the way he used and abused her.

Since Paul chose Billie's freedom and financial solvency over "the big story", she feels she can trust him to have her best interests at heart (even when the truly noble thing would be to turn everything over to the paper and the police). So, I figure she was protecting herself as well as Harry, since she stood to lose a lot too if his dirty deeds were made public. They were her companies, after all.

I think that she simply wanted him to have a rest. The whole movie people are always using their heads, trying to impress people and not going with the flow. Billy is always going with the flow and following her impulses. Whatever makes you happy. Basically, she was guided by her emotions and not her head.
Despite the bad stuff we saw Harry do to her he was also very good to her. They had a long history together. And she loved him. I think she wanted what was best for him. I don't think she wanted the documents brought to light cause she wanted to have some control over him in order to make him relax and enjoy life. At one point in the movie she asks him "when is it enough"( or something to like that). She wants him to enjoy what he has and stop trying to make more. I have a feeling his desire to get more more more turned him into the person he was in the end. I don't think the was such a dick when the met. He came from very humble beginnings. When it comes to the documents I think she wanted to protect him and force him to relearn whats important in life. You work to live not the other way around.
And I think that when she decides that Paul is good enough for her is when he stops using his head and uses his heart. Rather than following his head and career he follows his heart and does as she wishes. It was a sign that he loved her and respected her decision.
That's my two cents.
