Favourite Segment?

1st Segment :: The Gas-station - A young girl's first night working as a gas-station worker on night-shift is plagued with a stalker. Homage to John Carpenter's own Halloween (notice two references - David Naughton's character is from Haddonfield and Michael Myer's infamous rising movement behind Jamie Lee Curtis is imitated) Cameos from Wes Craven (Nightmare On Elm Street), Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead) and David Naughton (An American Werewolf In London)!
Director :: John Carpenter

2nd Segment :: Hair - An aging man vanity gets the better of him and he decides to try this revolutionary new treatment that grows hair rapidly. Only his new-found hair has a mind of its own!
Director :: John Carpenter

3nd Segment :: Eye - A baseball player loses his eye in a car crash. He decides to have a new one surgically replace his own punctured eye... only he begins to see what the previously screwed-up occupant saw through the new eye!
Director :: Tobe Hooper

My personnal fave would be the 1st Segment. The music, shots, actors and everything was excellent! I enjoyed every second of it... awesome

I just watched it on Sci-Fi, I can't believe I didn't catch Wes Cravern or Sam Raimi! Sheesh, I feel bad for that, I got John and Tobe though....

In any case, I liked Hair most, mainly because the set-up was really funny, the pay-off wasn't all that great but still, a nice way to spend part of the afternoon. Then Eye (Ah, Mark you're so adorable... Even when you're a... demented baseball player... Yea.) and then the Gas Station (The best part of that segment [Aside Sam's cameo!] was the picture on the bathroom stall, I wish there was more graffiti like that.)

Expletive: Damn it, master, I am an assassination droid... not a dictionary!

Yes, that picture on the bathroom stall was pretty sweet.

I personally enjoyed the Coroner's narrations the most. He was just some creepy dead man in the morgue who presented the tales by looking in body bags.

reply

That's because the version shown on Sci-Fi was the Edited version, the original Uncut version was only shown on Showtime until Shout Factory released it as part of the Scream Factory lineup in 2013.

I like the first one the most. It had the eerie effect, for which I'm a fan of. I didn't care for the "Hair" segment. It wasn't scary at all and seemed out of place in this decent film. I enjoyed the movie.

I loved "Hair" as well – hilarious and weird. The "Gas Station Attendant" was terrific also, though the buildup was greater than the payoff. "Eye" was good, but it went exactly as I had expected.

I was very pleased with this anthology. Usually there's one clinker in these anthologies, but this was was solid gold. 8/10 stars.

The Gas Station was the best segment. Classic Thriller/Horror. Great Characters, Great Story, and Great Atmosphere. I loved it!

"Gas Station" was genuinely scary and I loved it. Probably my favorite. "The Eye" was very good as well. I thought Mark Hamill (whom I adore) did a good job playing a normal guy who goes psycho. And his Southern accent wasn't half bad. "Hair" was pretty good but it seemed more like a "Creepshow" segment than John Carpenter.

The Gas Station is also my favorite and I agree with

Mine: The Gas Station

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

wow a 10 year gap in response - I have just seen the film

IMHO the best segment is Eye - Hooper knows how to make horror - Gas Station was all synth music and quite lame, Hair was funny though

I am really surprised Hooper is getting dissed for the best segment

reply

This movie would've been pretty bad without Gas Station tbh. It has genuine suspense going for it. The other 2 are ok at best. Mark Hamill was pretty good in Eye I guess. Though I'm not surprised people don't care for it.
