Indians and Blacks

Have Indians have the same prejudices and trepidations of their women going with Black men like the Whites? I seen the same thing in Mississippi Masala. As a Black-American I find it weird but, they are treated like Whites during the colonial period in Africa.

I too am black and am wondering about Indian hostility.

I think it has something to do with their caste culture -- a system of ranking peoples deeply established in their nation.

I believe many (not just whites) view African blooded people as the slave race (bad, inferior, maybe even cursed). I think in South Asian culture that translates into low-caste or even out-caste. And then, all the hatred directed at their "lower" people is directed at black folk also.

Not quite true, afro_747 ,

As far as Indian culture is concerned, it's essentially Hindu culture though large numbers of Muslims and other minorities live in India or broadly speaking in the Indian sub-continent.

In no way an Indian would see a black person as a lower being as he or she sees many of his own fellow country men/women who belong to the so called lower castes or untouchables.

A black person for an Indian is a person from a very distant place and more importantly from a very different culture about which the Indian has a very very little knowledge so an Indian is very apprehensive about coming into contact, having relationship or being interested which is a very common human behavior.

As an Indian, I don't see any reason whatsoever to consider a black person from any where a lower being. May be a little darker than me but than I'm much more darker than many other peoples of this earth!

The "slave race?" WTF are you talking about?! Look, white people created these racist bull**** myths about black people in order to justify enslaving us in the first damn place---that's the long and short of it. "African-blooded people"---sorry,but that just sounds so silly to me. There's no such thing as "African-blooded people"--honestly, you need to think more carefully about what the hell you're going to say BEFORE you type about anything, particularly race. Indians, I've heard, are just as racist as white folks are toward black people because they were ingrained with that "superior" mentality during the British colonization era and white people told them they were better than black people even though the British looked down on them and treated them like s*** too---no different from the black people they were told to look down upon. On top of that, a lot of Indian folks, are just as dark as any black person I see on the regular, so you know there's some serious self-hate going on there. Hell, even in Bollywood movies, the leading lady is always what black folks used to call "light, bright and damn near white"---you rarely see any dark-skinned actresses cast as the love interest, which is pretty *beep* in this day and age. It seems like they're been trying to get away from that lately, but not by much.

Anyway, I like BHAJI ON THE BEACH, and I really should look into upgrading it seeing as that the VHS I have of it isn't of good quality, unfortunately. Really good film worth checking out on a slow day.
