Detrich Bader was horrible

I didn't think he was horrible. I think that all of the actors had some pretty big shoes to follow and, frankly, I think he was trying to put on a performance as a tribute to Max Baer's work as Jethro in the series. In fact, I think they all were, especially with Buddy Ebsen on the set in a cameo role as Barnaby Jones.

I thought Cloris Leachman, in particular, did a fantastic job as Granny and before this, I thought there was no one that could even come close to the job done by Irene Ryan.

I thought they all deserved a pat on the back for their efforts. I think casting a film about Gilligan's Island would be just as difficult, for the producers as well as the actors and having to fill the shows of those who made the show famous.

he went wayyyyy overboard here.

The role is overboard, not the portrayal. If anything, it was toned down in comparison to Max Baer Jr's version of Jethro.
