Disappointing but one of my Favorites!
This is my first Post! I love the polarity in views about this film. I don't think this film can be compared to the majority of studio films out there because it doesn't fit the recipe or formula that most viewers expect. If you look it as a study of archetypes or as an object lesson about good intentions and failure...it almost makes more sense as an unsuccessful film than it would as a blockbuster.
I loved the film because it left me disappointed as a film-goer and it was that disappointment that seemed to provide a metaphysical (magical?) connection with the protagonist(s) who continue to strive through history to get things right, but always fail. There's no Rudy here, no Good Will Hunting, no amazing success story...it's a disappointing film because it reflects realities that are all too uncomfortable for people who sometimes quietly look at their own lives (It takes guts to make a film that allows you to contemplate yourself when you're supposed to be busy watching.)
