Granny and the ending SPOILERS

Loved this film, but two things bothered me.
1. What was the point of Granny, when she was introduced I expected great things from her but she did nothing.
2. The ending. The Bride was killed or at least mortally wounded by a nobody with a sword, give me a break man. In the first film she is ran through and to what effect - none, then again in the second shot with an arrow, again to no effect. Just didn't sit right with me.
I would love to see a film of this type where the lovers actually survive, too many of these films end with the rather weak device(after seeing it used so many times) of they are together now in the afterlife. Couldn't they just once live?

1. The Granny, like most of the other characters in this film were mostly thrown in to up the body count and provide something of a comedy aspect. Heavens knows why, to endear the audience to be upset when they all die? Plus, she's the only Non-Serious/Non-Stubborn "old" character.

2. Yes, but, I think their story is meant to be tragic. To be true to the legend (if there is one anyway).

It's not that weak an ending.

And I suppose it's true, the nobody with a sword part. Except there are other factors to deal with... Maybe she wanted to die after all this drama and having just half killed her True Love.

There are a fair few films of this sort where the couple dies, it's just how it goes.

There was this one series I watched based on an old chinese story where the couple lived "Happily Ever After" after faking their death drinking poison so no one would ever bother them again... I thought that was a bit... silly.

For a Couple Lives ending watch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104322/ if you haven't already.

(Please note that none of this was meant to sound sarcastic, hostile or argumentative. I loved the Bride With White Hair films.)

The Granny was there for her to tell the young ones about 'Uncle Cheuk'.
Since all the other old folks had made a pact or something about never telling anyone about the him and the White Haired Maiden.

The Bride was caught off guard when she was stabbed, she was too focused on the man that she has loved and hated for over 10 years...

I felt the ending was extremely sad, but it was done very well.
