I just bought the dvd and this flick is wild, wild, wild! Brigette Lin is the best. I love her eyes. She's a real kung fu mama.

shareI love this film. Brigette lin is amazing and a real wild woman. Leslie chueng is dreamy in this film with his wild hair. Should be more extras but i still love the ones that come with the dvd, the audio with the director and the making of feature. Can get the dvd or vhs at amazon or half.com or ebay. I have both. Hong kong cinema is so much fun and very heartbreaking at times also.
For are you not the oasis where I dream, in great draughts I gulp the wine of memory?

Get the new Australian release. It has excellent picture quality (could be even better than the french release).
shareThanks for the info!

If you want the French DVD with English subs and it's cheap ($10 w/shipping)
It's a legit DVD just like the R4 Aussie release that uses the same print.
But this one is alot cheaper. It is PAL so remember that.

The R2 DVD SUCKS really hard; the transfer is abysmal, really blurry and awful. I thought the R2 transfer of "Black Rain" was a disgrace to that film, but this takes the *beep* biscuit.
Drive George, drive! This one's got a coat hanger!
I borrowed the french DVD from a friend of mine. Being honest I was kinda disappointed with the poor picture and audio quality. But then I realized that I was being a bit unfair.
This movie looks as good as a low-budget film, shot 16 years ago, can look on DVD. I mean this movie is never going to look as wonderful as Hero neither to sound as impressive as House of Flying Daggers. However overall it's a decent transfer.
Dunno how good or bad are other releases.
The R4 Australian Eastern Eye DVD is the only one I've found that is 16:9 with English subtitles. My French DVD (under the alternate title, JIANG HU) from Studio Canal has no English subs. I've bought a lot of different releases of this film (it's my favorite movie!) and the Australian one is by far the best-looking. That said, it's tragic that this beautiful film never got a really good transfer anywhere in the world. Hopefully it will someday get the treatment it deserves on blu-ray...
