Stuart Sutcliffe

Does anybody know where you can find information about Stuart Sutcliffe on the internet? I want to know all about him, but all I know is what you learn from the film Backbeat. So, if someone can tell me a good place to find information, that would make me happy!

There has been some suggestion that his death was due in part to an episode similar to the start of the movie, where he and John get beaten up. The head injuries caused swelling/ fluid build up of the brain and where partly responsible for the headaches he supposedly got.

reply

i heard stu fell down the stairs and that was what ultimately led to the hemmorage. in real life that is, not the film.

reply

no, he was kicked in the head during a fight.

I've read that his problems might have resulted from an incident in the summer of 1959. This was after a show the group performed in Litherland where a bunch of Teddy Boys jumped them and started beating up on them. The other boys got away but Stuart got kicked in the head rather severely. His head injury bled for hours and his mother pleaded with him to see a doctor. He told her that if she did call one, he would leave home for good and she would never see him again. Then there was another fight after a show in 1961, where John Lennon got his finger broken and Stuart suffered another, more severe head injury. This time his skull was fractured. If only he had sought medical treatment after he got hurt, he might be alive today. By the time he did, it was too late.

Ever hear of Google?

reply

actually...John kicked him in the head...Stu's wife has stated this. And many years later John reported that he felt gult that he may have caused stu's death. (wikipedia)

reply

Stuart was never married, so he couldn't have had a wife. If you mean Astrid, she never said that. It's a ridiculous made up talke by Albert goldmann to sell copies of his book

reply

They were engaged to be married but he died before the wedding could take place.

redatom65,
Your allegation that John kicked Stu in the head is a fookin' lie.
