How could Kosh have been possioned

I love B5 to death, but when i saw the gaterhing just now I was wondering how Kosh was possioned. The Vorlons are beings of light and not corporial(?) like humans. When Lyta scanned Kosh we see kosh giving the fake Sinclair a hand which was very humanoid. How can this be?

reply

Lyta stated that she would be seeing everything Kosh saw when she was in his mind, but she would see it as her own body. So it was Lyta's own hand that she saw, but it really represented Kosh's hand.

reply

Still, how was the Minbari able to poison a Vorlon?

reply

It's a long shot but it's possible that Kosh never was poisoned. He just acted that way so that the Vorlons could see Sinclair's intentions.

It's 'would have', not 'would of'.

reply

Knowing Kosh, it wouldn't surprise me, however bear in mind that the Minbari were the only race (other then the shadows and possibly the third race aliens) to know a bit about a vorlon, perhaps enough to try and hurt one if such a scenario were to happen. However its also more likely that given its a pilot episode there were some uncertinities to what kosh shpu;d be (which would explain why he never actually spoke in the pilot) Delenn for example was altered after the pilot, though I did like her orignal design, it made her look more alien humanoid rather than humanoid alien.

reply

I don't think Vorlons are entirely non-corporeal...but perhaps have an ability to shift or phase. The Shadows made mince-meat out of Kosh in the series later on.

Minbari's have been dealing with Vorlons for centuries - it's quite believable they would know a way to poison one.

reply

I think it was just a poor plot scheme that later on turned out to be a bad idea once they fleshed out the Vorlon characters.
I noticed in the pilot that there were many many rough edges! Lots of ideas that later turned out to be stupid were dropped (the bad CGI floating camera remote, the stupid looking weapons, G'Kar's terrible makeup, the frighteningly ugly Minbari, the terrible Minbari robes, and of course the idea that Kosh could be poisoned.

Its just a pilot, and its good they resolved many issues before the series.

reply

Kosh recognized that Sinclair and Valen were the same person, so he extended his hand/tentacle/pseudopod out of his Encounter Suit to shake his old friend Sinclaire's hand. From what Dr. Kyle's diagnostics found, Kosh has a cortex, cells, breathes, etc. so the Vorlons do have some sort of physical body. Vorlons are not unkillable, and only the Minbari would've known what could kill one.

A pilot is usually just to check, if people would like the show.

The rules set by a pilot are not necessarily still to be obeyed in the series. If I remember right, it took several hours for ships exiting the jump gates to break down to Bab5. This was also canceled in the regular series.

reply

Agreed. A pilot must be viewed with "suspension of disbelief" and "suspension of expectation of contiuity", unless you want to drive yourself mad.

I remember Sheridan ordering Garibaldi to get Kosh of the station in Season 4(??) and Kosh lifted up in the air as this ethereal being of light. So either he is capable of shape-shifting or they just used his "hand" as a plot device to poison the thing. So, they changed it. Good for them.

Eh, it sets up some story lines that recur later in the series, so it's good to watch anyway. I'm just going through my Christmas present of the DVD set and they mentioned that Lyta Alexander scanned Kosh when he got poisoned. Remembering that she later appeared as the black-eyed super telepath I wanted to go back and watch the pilot movie to start from the very beginning, for the heck of it if nothing else.

Actually, the Vorlons do have corporeal bodies. Otherwise Kosh wouldn't have been able to catch Sheridan in one episode.

I suspect that Kosh allowed himself to be poisoned. To test everyone there. To see if they are ready for peace or something. Like the way they were testing Sheridon later on.

maybe when they created the pilot episode they didint knew that Vorlons is going to torun out to be beings of light with no bodies :D
Later alteration during series happen often, thus creating plot holes in first episodes for a viewer who have seen latter ones aswell.
