The only scene I remember showing anybody perform for the Japanese was when Xiaolou performed for them and Deiyi refused to. But then Deiyi was the one on trial for performing for the Japanese. Would somebody please explain to me what I missed?

shareNo, you should rewatch it. Xiaolou never sang for the Japanese. Dieyi did sing for them with hopes of getting them to release Xiaolou, whom they'd seized for his insubordinance and what they considered to be disrespect. Xiaolou even spat in Dieyi's face when he discovered what Dieyi had done for him.
