Ash is NOT an "idiot" at all

What's so "blatantly stupid" about him in AoD? Nothing. Nada.

He got the incantation wrong, but there are several LOGIC reasons for that anyway:

1- In "The Evil Dead" (first movie), we can see that Ash has problems with foreign languages and he messes a greek quote very bad.

2- He remembered MOST of the incantation: "KLAATU VERATA NI---".

3- The process of duplication (Bad Ash), which occurred just hours before, had temporarily messed up with his mind anyway.

Beyond the fact that he didn't remember PART of the LAST WORD of the incantation, he's badass and smart throughout the movie... so why are people convinced Ash is an idiot?

Don't forget he has been enslaved at the beginning of the movie and tortured for WEEKS. And don't forget the countless traumas he survived during the first two movies.

Bruce Campbell has stated Ash is incompetent at everything except fighting the Evil Dead.[10] Campbell also added that Ash is "a bad slow thinker and a good fast thinker". He knows some degree of hand-to-hand combat techniques, and shows prowess with a variety of weapons in various situations.[11] His main strength seems to be his ingenuity: although he is repeatedly noted in the audio commentaries for The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II for his stupidity and ignorance, he has from the second film on been shown creating such things ranging from his chainsaw bracket and shotgun harness, gunpowder from mainly referencing its elemental makeup in a chemistry book, a fully functional prosthetic hand from a metal gauntlet, and the short-lived "Deathcoaster".

probably just the way he bumbles about, but i agree he seems pretty smart in this movie. Even with a book on chemistry, i wouldn't be able to make gun-powder.

i DO have his Steam Engine book, but it's all incomprehensible to me.

Maybe because he tried to fudge his way through the incantation by coughing over the last word, but the Deadites weren't fooled.
