when blane played himself going after mitchell and fell over the railing into the deep river (where nobody went to save him) with heavy gear on, how did he get out?
never tried it personally as a skater, how would one stay afloat?

Are you joking? Seth Green was practically a woman in this movie. The main character was a big pussy. There was even a scene where they were trying on clothes? How much more feminine can you get?
It's obvious you're not up to date if you think people in high school movies look 13. They actually skew older these days since they cast 20+ year olds. Look at Glee, or Easy A. Emma Stone is 22.

Certainly blane was the more emergency situation, compared to the skater who had fell and conked his head... but at least was on solid ground until emergency personnel arrived, if they were needed. With those skates on in the water, you wouldn't be able to kick as you would expect, and would just be using arm strength to tread. As to having the clarity to take off the skates, basically blind due to the murky water, hard to say what the average person would do in the situation. Certainly, panicing would be a risk
