Scorsese dedicating the film to his father

I just found that pretty interesting. One almost get this sense that maybe his father, like Archer, gave up love of his life to raise his family.

I've been told that Scorsese said that Newland's marriage reminded him of his own parents. No, I don't have a link, this is heresay.

And it doesn't imply that Scorsese Sr. gave up the love of his life because he'd married or knocked up someone else, nothing that detailed. Maybe Mrs. Scorsese Sr. called him on his shit at some point, and sooner or later, he respected her for it. That does happen.
