Would you fix it?

Most "Repeating Day" movies, the character doesn't know what's causing the loop and so can't fix it and doesn't know for sure that it will happen tomorrow. This guy knows what's causing it and knows for sure that the day will repeat. If you were him, would you try to fix it, or would you live with it for a while?

I think I'd live with it for a very long time. Think about it. That would be total and utter freedom. You can do any evil, twisted thing that pops into your head, and no matter what, you won't spend longer than till 12:01 in jail for it. Tomorrow, no one will remember a thing. You could do anything. At the very least, I'd spend 20 years training in Karate or something before I tried to stop it. Might as well prepare yourself, ya know?

I wouldn't try to stop it for a very, very long time, if ever. You can always stop it tomorrow, or 500 years from now.

Agreed! I would spend thousands of years trying to find the absolute best scenario. I might be a little scared to have time start moving again though. It's like giving up immortality.

reply

I probably wouldn't ever stop it. Screw bringing back "Normalcy". I mean, think about all of the things you could do. No consequences to any action. You could do any drug you could find and not even worry about having a hangover!!! I'd never stop it. Well, not for a very, very long time.

That happened in Groundhog Day, and the Silverman 12:01. But you should watch the 12:01 version with Kurtwood Smith to see a different take. It's hard to find on DVD, but it's on youtube.

It would very quickly become total and utter boredom. Every day would have the same weather, no seasons. You'd be stuck in the same locale day after day because you can't go very far in a little over 16 hours. And you never know. You could pull a Butterfly Effect and make one tiny change that could ripple through the day and cancel the time bounce, leaving you in jail or dead. Is that something you really want to risk?

Well, except for the same weather, that's pretty much my life now. So I wouldn't find that boring. Hopefully it happened on a day with decent weather so I'd never have to worry about seeing rain and snow again.

That is a legitimate risk. I never considered that. But I'd try really hard to stay far away from the guys responsible. Honestly, I'd probably find a drug dealer that could provide me with all kinds of cool stuff and spend the next 500 years stoned and watching movies on NetFlix instant watch. And I wouldn't even have to worry about having a hangover the next day.

I would never fix it. In fact my answer to the "three wishes" thing has always been pretty much this except I'd prefer a year and being able to take a suitcase or at least a laptop back with me.

reply

I wouldn't want a year, but I'd want a full 24 hours. Like 12:01 to 12:01. Why would you want a year? That would be too hard to remember what was going to happen. Besides that, if you got into serious trouble, you could be in it for a rather long time. With only one day, you'd never spend more than a night in jail no matter what you did.

I'd be less interested in knowing what's going to happen than the eternal life/youth/chances component. Even a decade would be fine. Although you'd eventually know a lot of what would happen around the world.

One day is not long enough to accomplish anything, and you'd be stuck in the same region for eternity. With longer time and enough tries you could eventually go anywhere and become a ruler, a celebrated artist, or whatever you wanted.

I could put up with jail or other hard situations if I knew I had an infinite future. Or find a way to kill myself and reset.

reply

Yeah, I guess you've got a point there. The thing is though that if you became a ruler or a celebrated artist, you'd get to enjoying it, and then things would reset and you'd lose it all. Granted you could do it again, but it would still be a kick in the teeth every time it happened.

And there's plenty of places you could go in 24 hours. You'd hardly be stuck in the same region for eternity. How far can you drive in four hours? Then you'd still have 20 hours to do your thing. That's a 250 miles radius. I could live with that. I used to drive a truck. It's not like I'm not used to driving a lot.

Pros and cons to both I suppose. Now that you mention it though, I'd like to have a repeating month perhaps. Enough time to travel the world, still short enough to learn what was going to happen and avoid serious consequences.
