Roland - Season 1 Episode 22 - A review

SPOILERS

Roland, a long term resident of the Heritage Half-Way House and a Janitor by occupation, is tormented by his twin brother Arthur, a disembodied head in a tank of liquid nitrogen. Arthur is forcing Roland to kill the rocket scientists who stole his work on jet propulsion.

In Roland’s spare time Arthur makes him continue his scientific work. On one occasion we see Roland, a pen in either hand, writing into two notebooks simultaneously. Roland is plagued by headaches.

Mulder tries to help the distressed Roland by telling him the parable of the toy spaceship and the remote control. Mulder sincerely hopes that this will allow Roland to put the frozen head out of his mind.

Meanwhile, back at the cryogenic tank, things are heating up as the remaining scientist has tampered with Arthur’s thermostat. Naturally Arthur is not going to stand for this and gets Roland to attack the scientist. Roland is well on the way to making finely ground mincemeat of him when Scully manages to appeal to Roland's better nature and saves the day.

Sadly there is no place at the Heritage Half-Way House for the twin brother of the head of a mad scientist and Roland is forced to pack his bags and leave.
