I kind of just want the show to end. It was nice having the show back, but season 10/11 really haven't done anything special for me to say "It was definitely worth bringing it back for this" Maybe if it had properly concluded the overarching mythology of the original run, I'd be more satisfied, but it seems like there is no end in sight even without Scully, which I don't like, not only because of the loss of the character but a show without direction just turns into Lost.

Aside from a few episodes I found entertaining, there was nothing worthwhile about these two new seasons that would make me say, "I'm so glad they made NEW X-Files!!"

The only thing that made me tune-in was to see whether they were FINALLY going to let the cat out of the bag about the Aliens and have their existence revealed definitively to the whole world. They cheated us with the cliffhanger at the end of season 10 that this was the intention, then near totally ignored it, or at least minimalized it, to the point of insignificance when the show resumed this year.

Frankly, I'm too old now to have my mind fucked with by this show without getting some clear-cut answers (it's been 25 years, fer chrissakes!), and I'm not going to allowed myself to be jerked around anymore. The X-Files is dead. It could have concluded admirably, but instead it finished with mediocrity--it's modus operandi for its final 5 or 6 seasons.

Losing Anderson would be a huge loss for the show. Her character is as iconic to the show as Duchovnys. But i could see it moving on without her.For me Mulder and his beliefs have always been the anchor that holds this show together.Even when Duchovny left the show in season 8 they still made the focus of the majority of episodes and centered the main arcs around him.Hopefully they don't pull a Lost and just end the show with more questions than answers.

Based on those ratings, I really don't see it coming back. It's not up to Cris Carter and I get that X-Files has tenure but this second stint has been a trainwreck ratings wise. It's accumulated dismal numbers through out this entire stint which to me is shocking because two years ago, it never got a demo rating in the 1's and stayed in the 2's. It even increased to a 3.2 with its 10th season finale.

The show just needs to end. Hopefully the finale has some sense of conclusion for the series.

Show could go on without Mulder or Scully. What it really need to lose is the baggage of its creator.

For me the duo is the X-files so I'd prefer it to just end with both of them.

reply

yes, sadly, that is what should be done

This show is missing critical writing and producing talent that is Vince Gilligan.

I can see the show going on with just Mulder, but it would miss Scully severely.

I didn't care for the Doggett and Reyes seasons without Mulder and Scully, and I would lose interest again if the original duo bowed out a second time.

I can see just DD, but it won't be the same. I'm hoping GA reconsiders. I rather liked Doggett and Reyes.

reply

Yes, I would still watch just Duchovny but I'd really miss the chemistry with Anderson severely, and it wouldn't be the same.

Not quite as badly "not the same" as the Doggett/Reyes seasons, but still not the same.

I did quite like Doggett as a character, but I never really got past disliking that it wasn't the Mulder and Scully show anymore.

Yes, no characters, no matter how good, can beat M&S. I was very surprised at Doggett and Reyes though. I thought they handled the parts very well. They weren't in your face hams, but rather subdued persons. They were both very dedicated to Scully and her pregnancy, too.
