Just watched Fallen Angel

I'm really enjoying watching those old eps. What I can't see is when some use to say that David was wooden. I think he was amazing. Even in those early shows.

I was too busy when this show originally aired. I'm so freekin' happy for the re-run.

I just saw that episode about a month ago and it's one of my top episodes from season 1. The thing with Duchovny is that he was perfect for the role of Fox Mulder but part of Mulder's personality is that he was an understated and laconic guy and I guess some viewers confused that with thinking that Duchovny himself was understated or "wooden".

Watching it myself right now (MyTV, right?), plus it aired overnight here in the Seattle area Thurs-Fri. Gotta be one of my favorites; I so loved the early UFO eps. Plus Max Fenig!! And Deep Throat!!

Okay, can anyone help me with this? Kinda obscure but oh well. In the opening scene there are a couple of army radio operators who see the "bogie" and report to the general (?), who says to report it as a fallen satellite or something. The woman: I swear to God I know that face, and I think she's the one who later emerges from an airport bathroom with the black oil in her eyes. Remember, the ep where Nicholas Lea (can't think of his name on the show now) does the same thing, comes out of the bathroom with black oil in his eyes?

Can't find the character listed on IMDb. Aarrgghh, I hate how little details like this bug me, ha ha.

reply

There she is again, 40 mins into ep. She's GOTTA be on that cast list, have to check again.

The character in Fallen Angel is named Chief Karen Koretz (I think we hear her called Ms. Koretz at one point). The actress who played her did also play salvage diver Gauthier's wife, who went to Hong Kong while under the influence of the black oil, in Piper Maru in season 3.

Fallen Angel is one of my favorite first season episodes.

THANK YOU, Dreamsville!! You are dreamy. ;o) It's funny how a show will feature an actor multiple times, in different roles. I always think they must be related to someone on the show, since it's so hard for other actors to catch a break at all.

On The X-Files I think it usually had more to do with the fact that the show was filmed in Vancouver for the first five seasons, and the smaller roles were always cast from the pool of local actors - a very talented pool, but much smaller than the ones in LA and New York. I always enjoyed seeing the Vancouver-based actors popping up in different character roles. Once the show moved production to LA in season 6 you didn't see that happening nearly as much, if at all.

(Wish I could "like" posts on these boards!) Interesting.

You are right on the money with your post Dreamsville. It's amazing to me just how often you see the same Vancouver actors in so many different tv shows (mostly scifi).

Just take Battlestar Galactica and Caprica for example. I saw at least 5 or 6 actors on those series who were also on an episode of the X-Files. The ones that come to my mind are:

Callum Keith Renne
Matthew Bennett
Donnelly Rhodes
Lorena Gale

UFO episodes were great during the first seasons - there was a lot of mystery in there. IMO, the strongest episodes in 1st season are mythology ones. As we have discussed many times over - something went wrong 3/4 season...

reply

The mythology did start to get too convoluted but in my opinion that wasn't really apparent until season 5.

reply

Not apparent yes - but somewhat out of place...

reply

I gave up on the ufo thing and just watch the stand alone episodes

reply

Yep, that's maybe the most underrated (or rather, overlooked) episode of the series.
