So the alien colonization plot was never real?

Is that what season 10 is saying?

How does that make any sense at all?

Can somebody explain this to me?

In short, yes. It's all been a lie. There are some fans that hope CC will be able to reconcile and fuse the new and old mythology together, but it's clear to me, based on his past-season-ten interviews as well as his overall track record, that this won't be the case. IMO the mythology is not repairable in any rational, coherent manner, which is why I do not accept season ten as canon.

How does that make any sense at all?

It doesn't. CC most likely did not know how to continue with the colonization storyline. I have no problem with that in and of itself, but there was no need to retcon / erase / even question the past. A storyline about a conspiracy of men wanting to take over the world can perfectly coexist with alien colonization that has been delayed or prevented for whatever reason. That's why, to me, season ten is indefensible.

Can somebody explain this to me?

There was lots of outrage on Tumblr, Reddit, as well as Idealistshaven. Twitter more or less, too. Facebook and IMDb however, have been more positive.

After "My Struggle II" aired I was very angry and wrote an opinion piece about season ten titled "20 Questions for Chris Carter". It has been shared by fans, e-mailed to certain X-Files / FOX people, et cetera. Of course it didn't have much of an impact (why would it?), but I felt I needed to release my anger somehow.

You may not agree with all of it, but I'm sure you'll find it an interesting read.

It's good to see others saying Season 10 is not Cannon, I was just bringing that up too. The Season 10 mythology makes absolutely no sense and it ignores everything that's happened. I was saying it's basically not Cannon it just doesn't work.

reply

Exactly why I'm not planning on watching anything to do with the revival anytime soon.

reply

The Aliens mythology and the alien colonization plot where all real, the Spartan Virus, is a soft reboot/loose continuation of the storyline of the colonization/invasion only the virus is man-made

reply

They weren't real if you consider S10 canon...

reply

No, they could very well be real even with S10 being canon. We don't know what the payoff is yet and we don't know if anybody was lying to Mulder... as has been done before.

reply

we don't know if anybody was lying to Mulder... as has been done before.

indeed it was, this piece of script is from episode Gethsemane 4X24

(Kritschgau sits on a chair across from Mulder on the sofa. Scully is leaning against
the doorway between the dining and living rooms)

KRITSCHGAU:

The lie you believe, that they have cleverly led you to believe, Agent Mulder, is that there is intelligent life, other than our own, and that we have had contact with these life forms.

MULDER:
So you're saying this has all been orchestrated? A hoax?

KRITSCHGAU:
Which you've been used to perpetuate.

MULDER:
You come by this knowledge how?

KRITSCHGAU:
Working for the D.O.D. Watching a military industrial complex that operated unbridled and unchecked during the Cold War, create a diversion of attention from itself and its continued misdeeds by confabulating enough believable evidence to convince passionate adepts like yourself... that it really could be true.

MULDER:
And just by chance, you run into Agent Scully?

KRITSCHGAU:
(Gives the comment a snort and smile) I was just like you, Agent Mulder, suspicious of everything but what you should be. I ran the D.O.D.'s agitprop arm for a decade. I can show you records of disinformation dating back to the Korean War, before you were even born.

MULDER:
Why come to me now? Why not four years ago?

KRITSCHGAU:
I have a son who's very sick. He served in the Gulf War... The lies are so deep the only way to cover them, is to create something even more incredible. They invented you. Your regression hypnosis, the story of your sister's abduction, the lies they fed your father. You wanted to believe so badly. And who could have blamed you?

MULDER:
And the thousands of UFO sightings?

KRITSCHGAU:
Above top secret military aircraft, concept designed to feed hysteria.

MULDER:
Evidence of alien biology?

KRITSCHGAU:
Unclassified, but naturally occurring biologic anomalies science will eventually explain.

MULDER:
The body that was found?

KRITSCHGAU:
Meticulously constructed out of biomaterials created through the hybridization of differentiated cells. What are called chimeras. Frozen into place over the course of a year using sentiment and materials that would bear out its age, poured through a small channel drilled in the rock above.

MULDER:
They would have known that the body would be carbon dated, that it would be proved a fake.

KRITSCHGAU:
The body will never be tested, Agent Mulder.

MULDER:
What do you mean?

KRITSCHGAU:
You were only meant to see it, to make you believe the lie, so that you might finally commit and go public with the news.

MULDER:
(To Scully) This man is a liar.

KRITSCHGAU:
You can see for yourself, Agent Mulder. The body is already long gone.

reply

Yes, it is because of situations like this that I think it's better to wait and see what else they have planned before writing off season 10.

reply

IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU THINK...

this episode is on chiller in 53 minutes :)

spectre can

suck it.

reply

Until we see or hear otherwise than Mulder being lied to and everything else we saw make the alien colonization stuff one huge retcon.

reply

No matter what Season 10 says it has to be a lie or at the very least there has to be more to it just because of all Mulder has seen and all we've seen. The Alien Bounty Hunters, the Super Soldiers, the Syndicate destroyed, the only thing that makes it work is it's another lie.

reply

Now that I think of it, Max Fenig and Jeremiah Smith were pretty compelling characters.
