I used to watch this show all the time and only once do I remember somebody actually winning whatever the prize was. Theyd always blow it on that big map thing they had to put the sirens on becuase they didnt give nearly enough time unless you knew every random place on the globe. This show was rigged against the contestants, probably to save the producers money or to destory childrens self esteem

Amy ~ (never got the last name) did win once, but I remember watching many episodes where there was no winner.
I was too young to really appreciate this show when it was on the air, so I took me a while to figure out that the headlines reading "Carmen escapes" meant the game had just been lost. When I figured that out I realized I'd seen only 1 person win and thought it was strange that a game could be so hard!
I can remember there being several winnners.
One thing was, I always felt bad for the kids who made it all the way to the bonus round, only to get stuck with Asia -- that Asia map was like 3 times the size of the other continents, and they could barely fit it on the floor of the set! It almost seemed like they had to move some of the audence seating to fit that Asia map on the floor. And you knew that whenever it was Asia, the kid wouldn't come even close.
I won the whole thing. I was on the episode "The Perilous Penguin Pilferage". I got the United States at the end. Yes, I agree that I was lucky.

I was very little and I wasn't picking up geography very well yet, but on that note, I did clearly remember that the continent you wanted to be stuck with was South America.
Man that was a great show. And I'm glad the final round was hard. In my opinion, any game show with a "Grand Prize" should make the grand prize hard to win. It makes victory (when it happens about once a week) all the sweeter.
I only saw somebody win if the map was of the USA.
